Lies, Lies, Lies

The President is in a wee bit of trouble.

According to testimony by Scooter, Bush authorized the leak of documents regarding Iraq. Scooter says he didn’t want to do it and told his boss (Cheney) it was because the information was classified. Scooter then says that Cheney obtained permission from Bush to release them.

Remember when all this was breaking news and Bush said on television, “I want to know the truth. If anybody has got any information inside our administration or outside our administration, it would be helpful if they came forward with the information so we can find out whether or not these allegations are true and get on about the business.” Boy, is that going to come back and bite him in the ass.

So who do we believe? Is Scooter lying? Maybe. Did VP Cheney lie to Scooter about obtaining permission from the President? Perhaps. Cheney isn’t quite sold on the whole concept of the truth. Did President Bush lie when he was talking about finding out the truth regarding these allegations of leaked materials and outings of spies? Seriously, I think Bush is clueless about the whole thing.

My best guess is that Cheney authorized the release of the documents without the President’s permission and Scooter did what he was told.

If the Democrats win a majority this year, expect impeachment proceedings. I expect Cheney will resign before the year is out, perhaps creating an heir apparent for the presidential race in two years. Curiouser and curiouser.
