This is the kind of story that I get furious about.

A small private intelligence company that monitors Islamic terrorist groups obtained a new Osama bin Laden video ahead of its official release last month, and around 10 a.m. on Sept. 7, it notified the Bush administration of its secret acquisition. It gave two senior officials access on the condition that the officials not reveal they had it until the al-Qaeda release.

Within 20 minutes, a range of intelligence agencies had begun downloading it from the company’s Web site. By midafternoon that day, the video and a transcript of its audio track had been leaked from within the Bush administration to cable television news and broadcast worldwide.

The founder of the company, the SITE Intelligence Group, says this premature disclosure tipped al-Qaeda to a security breach and destroyed a years-long surveillance operation that the company has used to intercept and pass along secret messages, videos and advance warnings of suicide bombings from the terrorist group’s communications network. “Techniques that took years to develop are now ineffective and worthless,” said Rita Katz, the firm’s 44-year-old founder.

This just pisses me off.

The “War on Terror” is just a smokescreen for the Neo-Cons. It’s all about deleting Constitutional rights and gaining more power, money and control for themselves and their cronies.

There is no active war on terror when the administration destroys impressive work done by a private intelligence gathering company. SITE was working with the administration delivering vital data to intelligence agencies and in one fell swoop, Bush’s idiotic personnel destroyed years of covert work.

SITE intercepted and delivered the latest bin Laden video, well in advance of its release, to the White House. Stupidly, White House counsel Fred Fielding and national security deputy Joel Bagnal, passed around the access address (and passwords, I assume) like a Paris Hilton sex video, which, in turn, was leaked by someone to news agencies like Fox News.

Guess what happened next? al-Qaeda figured out the leak and destroyed SITE’s capability to gather new intelligence. I have no idea how great SITE’s intelligence gathering had been, but it sounds like it was doing well. The adminstration downplays SITE, but its not like our own intelligence gathering systems has found bin Laden six years after the towers fell.

I’m tired of the massive incompetence surrounding this presidency. Seriously, can we get a new one soon?
