From Paul Richardson:
Fact: In the last 43 years, Illinois has had seven different governors. Four of them will have ended up in prison. Yes, that’s greater than 50%. Randomly selecting a recent IL governor, it is more likely than not that they will have ended up in prison.
Some people are probably happy Blago is going to prison. I’m not. Don’t get me wrong, I have zero sympathy of the blatantly corrupt, deeply unpopular governor of my state. He’s a criminal and should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I just think it’s sad when someone is in a position of power to do so much good and they use it in ways to enrich their friends, family and themselves.
First, let me remind everyone that Chicago is not the capitol of Illinois. There are people who live in Chicago who think anything below I-80 is the deep, deep south and we are backwards, sleeping with our sisters, banjo-playing in-breds. I hate these people.
The capitol of Illinois is Springfield and no, there isn’t a nuclear power plant nearby and a yellow-skinned, four-fingered Bart Simpson doesn’t call it home. The governor has a residence there, although Blago had taxpayers pay for his private plane trips back and forth from Chicago to Springfield. Therein lies the problem.
The corrupt Chicago political machine just made international news and not in a good way. I think I speak for most residents of Illinois when I say to these politicians, hucksters and criminals, “Go Away!” Anyone with ties to the Chicago political machine is going to have a difficult time getting reelected in two years.
I want a full-time Governor, not a puppet of Chicago politics nor a dishonest official looking to line his or her pockets. Our next governor just has to run on the platform of “Change,” say publicly he will live in the governor’s mansion in Springfield and, you know, not be a complete bastard.
By the way, Blago is a Democrat. Just wanted a small little shout out to my Republican friends who may be under the impression I am a “water carrier” for the Left. Corruption and incompetence comes from both sides of the aisle.
Also, to those Republicans and chief wingnuts like Rush Limbaugh who are trying to spin this horrible abuse of power into somehow affecting Barack Obama… I roll my eyes in your general direction. You must not have received the memo. You are no longer relevant. No one except your shrinking base is listening.
Personally, I hope someone from under I-80 will be elected our next governor. Unfortunately, the joke of Chicago political corruption will never die. The whole situation is just sad.
