Cat Zakrzewski and Rachel Lerman, reporting for The Washington Post, says noted animated orange dreamsicle, Donald Trump, is filing lawsuits against social media companies that will essentially get thrown out of court.
The suits allege that the companies violated Trump’s First Amendment rights in suspending his accounts and argues that Facebook, in particular, no longer should be considered a private company but “a state actor” whose actions are constrained by First Amendment restrictions on government limitations on free speech. Traditionally, the First Amendment is thought to constrain only government actions, not those of private companies.
I wasn’t the first person to think of this, but the companies should consider responding to this hot air by collectively linking to this Randall Monroe cartoon below:
Honestly, I absolutely do not care about this (except to point to the cartoon) and do not think, for a second, that Trump is doing this for any other reason than to get attention. He had to shut down his silly little blog thing because it wasn’t getting any traffic. Blogging is hard.
I recommend not spending even a moment wasting your mental energy on Trump past reading this post. I know I won’t.
